House Republicans are pleased that the Governor and legislators from both parties responded to our call for returning over-collected tax revenues to the people.
We are disappointed that our March proposal to return them sooner via electronic deposits was not supported.
It is important to note we believe calling these funds “relief checks” is disingenuous. It is taxpayer money that has been collected from the Maine people in excess of what is needed to fund state government. The money is being returned to the people it was collected from, Maine taxpayers, instead of being used to expand state government.
