AUGUSTA – Legislative Republicans today submitted a letter to Governor Mills urging her to veto LD 1971 ‘AN Act to Protect Workers in This State by Clarifying the Relationship of State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies with Federal Immigration Authorities.’ The letter (attached) was circulated by Rep. Alicia Collins (R-Sidney) to Republican members of the House and Senate.
“This bill is a dangerous attempt to interfere with local law enforcement and make their jobs even more difficult,” said Rep. Collins. “It also jeopardizes access to important funding that is vital to protecting Maine citizens in a dangerous world. Given the Governor’s previous support of law enforcement on a number of issues, we are hopeful that she will veto LD 1971.”
