Be curious, not judgmental

by Rep. McIntyre On November 5, 2024, the people of Maine’s House District 18 elected me to carry their voices to Augusta. On December 4, 2024, I swore an oath, one of many I have taken in my life. In those first months, I gave myself a simple mandate: learn as much as I could,…

Solutions Don’t Always Require a Law

During the first regular session of the 132nd Maine Legislature, and as your freshman Representative for House District 18, I arrived in Augusta in late 2024 with a self-imposed mandate I call “the Golden Ratio”: two ears, one mouth. Listen more than you speak. I believe that when we follow this simple principle—and tune out…

Hope is not a dirty “4-letter” word…but hate is

To say the last few weeks have been unsettling, or even heartbreaking for me and many others, would be a huge understatement.  Partisan venom and vitriol seem to dominate our everyday conversation.  Maine, and in fact our Nation, are being torn apart right in front of us, and the rapidly growing divide guarantees one easily…

I’m Not Paul Harvey

But here’s more of the story… The first special session of Maine’s 132nd Legislature adjourned June 25, 2025. As a legislative body, we heard, debated, and voted on almost 2,000 bills or resolves. Some were controversial and contentious; others were more minor and administrative in nature. As your Representative for House District 18 (HD18), I…

The Golden Ratio

I believe we were given two ears and only one mouth for a reason. I’m continually struck by the power of genuine, focused communication between people who know how to listen, compared to the empty exchanges between those simply waiting for their turn to speak. Lately, I hear a consistent message from nearly everyone I…

A Stronger Maine Economy Is Possible

I do not rely on hyperbole or fear-mongering when communicating on important topics of concern to those I serve.  I do, however, believe in calling it like I see it, and because of this I will say that Maine is not on a good path in terms of our economic future.  So long as a…

Democrats adjourned the legislature 3 months early to avoid any limits on spending

Taxpayer-funded, free Community College for non-residents and non-citizens is a prime example of irresponsible spending while many Mainers go without This is Representative Mathew McIntyre of Lowell with the Weekly Republican Address. The sad and troubling Maine state budget has been in the news for months. After years of record tax collections and overspending by…

A Safer Maine Is Possible

Perhaps the single most critical function of our government is to provide for the safety and security of the People it serves.  It would be foolish for anyone to believe we can someday achieve a utopic society where crime does not exist, and all potential hazards to our property can be eliminated.  My aim is…

A Better Energy Future

We’ve all heard the adage about placing all our eggs in one basket.  Our Governor and the incumbent supermajority seem to lack this common-sense wisdom.  Maine’s current energy strategy is driven by partisan ideologies vice sound science and reasoned business acumen.  It is time we chart a new course, tailored to the environmental and fiscal…

The Importance of Being Genuine

by Rep. Mathew McIntyre It is an honor to represent sixteen towns, and parts of four unorganized territories spanning three counties (Penobscot, Washington and Hancock) in the legislature. Since I am new to politics, I feel it prudent to elaborate on why I ran for public office and what I stand for, beyond what I…
