Representative Amy Arata of New Gloucester is currently serving her fourth consecutive term representing House District 104, which includes the town New Gloucester and part of New Gloucester. During the 131st Legislature, Mrs. Arata served as the Assistant Republican Leader of the House of Representatives, and as a member of the Legislative Council. She serves on the 132nd Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Appropriations, her third non-consecutive term of that committee. She has also served on the Government Oversight and Taxation committees.
Representative Arata learned the value of hard work as a child helping out on her grandfather’s dairy farm. She attended Gordon College in Wenham, MA, where she was captain of the Cross Country Team and President of the Biology Club. She graduated with a degree in Biology and earned a full scholarship to the Doctoral program in Genetics at the University of California, Davis.
After marrying Michael Arata, Amy earned a Master’s of Science in Genetics. She moved to New Gloucester in 2006 and raised three sons. Together with her husband, she now owns a property investment business and a mechanical engineering business.
Amy’s community service also includes volunteer at youth and church events, the New Gloucester Budget Committee and the Planning Board. She was previously elected to the MSAD 15 School Board, and was appointed to the Maine State Board of Education.
