New Gloucester and part of Gray

Representative Amy Arata of New Gloucester is currently serving her third consecutive term representing House District 104, which includes the town New Gloucester and part of Poland.  Mrs. Arata is the Assistant Republican Leader of the House of Representatives, and a member of the Legislative Council.  She also serves on the 131st Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Government Oversight.  Rep. Arata previously served two terms on the Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Appropriations and Financials Affairs, as well as the Government Oversight Committee.  She has also served Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Taxation.

Representative Arata learned the value of hard work as a child helping out on her grandfather’s dairy farm. She attended Gordon College in Wenham, MA, where she was captain of the Cross Country Team and President of the Biology Club. She graduated with a degree in Biology and earned a full scholarship to the Doctoral program in Genetics at the University of California, Davis.

After marrying Michael Arata, Amy earned a Master’s of Science in Genetics. She moved to New Gloucester in 2006 and raised three sons. Together with her husband, she now owns a property investment business and a mechanical engineering business.

Amy’s community service also includes volunteer at youth and church events, the New Gloucester Budget Committee and the Planning Board. She was previously elected to the MSAD 15 School Board, and was appointed to the Maine State Board of Education.
