I want to recognize the Ellsworth high school girls who recently held an approved, peaceful protest in response to their concerns about male students in their bathroom. They clearly stated that they were not “affiliated with being trans, phobic (sic), or homophobic in any form.” They are only trying to protect students using the bathroom.
I agree with them that all students need to be comfortable at the school that they go to. They had the courage to act when a male student using their bathroom was making them uncomfortable.
Their letter stated: “There are transgender bathrooms for a reason. USE them. You cannot deny biology, if you’re a biological man you belong in the male restroom. If you’re a biological woman you belong in the women’s restroom. If you don’t identify with your biological sex, use the unisex bathroom that is why we have them. No student should be violated in any form.”
Sadly, students in other school are feeling the need to speak out for what should be common sense. Every student should feel safe, not violated to conform to an agenda pursued by a tiny minority that has available alternatives.
Our young people are our future, so it is encouraging to see them step up to protect their rights and privacy, especially if school administrators and faculty will not.
