STATE HOUSE- Representative James White District 30 of Guilford Maine has proposed legislation that will help vulnerable citizens protect themselves amidst increasing lawlessness. An Act Relating to Firearms Exclusions in Certain Locations” would hold property owners liable if people are harmed at a location that doesn’t allow them to carry firearms for their own protection. It will be presented to the Legislative Council for approval as an after-deadline bill. Council approval would allow it to be considered by the full legislature and receive a Public Hearing.
“I have heard from young females, working as nurses or wait staff, who get put in a position of leaving their place of employment that forbids them from bringing self-defense articles such as a firearm or even pepper spray onto the premises,” said Rep. White. “I have also heard from an elderly man who was forced to leave his self-defense articles in the car to go into the local pharmacy to get his prescribed medication. Upon returning to the parking lot, this law abiding citizen was accosted and knocked to the ground and his prescription stolen. Consideration of this bill will allow us to craft as solution that helps those and other Maine citizens protect themselves.”
Representative James White (R-Guilford) is currently serving his first term representing House District 30. A U.S. States Navy veteran, Rep. White is a career gunsmith with 35 years of experience.
