Legislators Urge President to Protect Maine’s Environment and Safeguard Coastal Communities

Legislators thank President Trump and call for further action to revoke existing offshore wind permits and leases that threaten the Gulf of Maine

STATE HOUSE – Republican members of Maine’s House and Senate have written a letter to President Donald J. Trump thanking him for taking swift action to protect the Gulf of Maine and urging him to take the next step by revoking existing lease and permits for the lease areas that threaten Maine’s environment and coastal communities.

“Maine’s environment and coastal communities are under assault from profiteers and their green energy zealots,” said the letter’s author Rep. Reagan Paul (R-Winterport). “Common sense, economics and environmental concerns are against the offshore wind projects proposed by Democrats for the Gulf of Maine. We appreciate that President Trump took swift action upon taking office to halt further damage. We are asking his administration to finish the job before irrevocable harm is inflicted on marine wildlife, coastal communities and our quality of life.”

The letter to President Trump detailing the concerns of Republican House and Senate members is attached.
