Offshore wind has the potential to destroy Maine’s marine environment and the lives of families that depend on it
STATE HOUSE– Rep. Tiffany Strout (R-Harrington) has introduced a bill (LD 1884) to prohibit offshore wind in Maine. The bill is scheduled to have a public hearing today at 1:00 p.m. before the Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee.
“When we talk about helping to slow the global warming process we need to think about all alternatives, not just the agenda of the day, or the profits allotted to individuals or the lobbyists,” said Rep. Strout. “I feel there are much better ways to proceed with production of energy and cutting down on the use of fossil fuels besides completely destroying the Gulf of Maine.”
The bill also directs the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, the Public Utilities Commission and the Department of Environmental Protection to submit legislation to align the provisions of law under the agencies’ respective jurisdictions with the prohibition on offshore wind power projects.
